John Denver became a star thanks to the folk songs he wrote, most of which are set in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico he fell in love with Colorado and eventually moved to Aspen. Denver's iconic anthems for Colorado are a source of inspiration for many to relocate to Colorado. G. Brown of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame states that John Denver is unlike any other musician who represents Colorado. Denver is the Hall of Fames' first inductee, was honored with this honor in 2011. Many consider Denver to be the Colorado image. Certainly in my travels you come across someone on the opposite end of the planet, someone of New Zealand and you say 'I'm from Colorado and the very first thing that comes out of their mouth is"Oh John Denver! Brown stated. Denver's first Top 10 hit as a solo artist after a short career performing in small folk bands comprised of Take Me Home Country Roads co-written with Bill Danoff. Danoff composed the song to Johnny Cash but Denver recognized the potential of the single the moment he heard it for the first time. The song was recorded by the singer just a few days later when he performed it in front of an enthusiastic audience in Washington D.C.
